Whenever I see this man-in-the-moon profile I think of the short-lived McDonald’s ad campaign featuring Mac Tonight. If you weren’t around watching TV in the 1980s you probably won’t have even heard of that fellow. The quote is from Edith Wharton’s long, and pretty much unreadable, poem “Versalius in Zante.”

I think he did creep people out. Plus they got into trouble because they didn’t have the copyright on the song they were riffing on (“Mack the Knife”). But for some reason I always kind of liked him.

I’d go out for a late-night cheeseburger with Mac. Maybe not at McDonald’s though. Haven’t been in one of those in decades.

Count me in as a fan of Mac Tonight. Back then, I was frequenting McDonald’s in the evening hours, and it was a siren call of sorts towards all the “required” fat and sodium. I can see why that bookmark would make you think of Mac. Nostalgic trip taken here…especially since I only visit McDonald’s about four times a year now…during the daytime.

Well, that’s a mentor in my book. Did you know the word “mentor” was originally a name? He was the guy Odysseus put in charge of his son Telemachus when he left for the Trojan War. I don’t know if he’s in the new movie.
Anyway, calling people “mentors” only came later. Like pandering came from Pandarus.

I did not know that. Everyone’s banging on about The Odyssey (named after Odysseus I suspect 😉). I should think I’ll be doing it when it streams, but am currently watching the blue ray remaster of Lawrence of Arabia, and I think that’s spoiled me for any movie ever again.

Haha of course! It would seem (from reviews) Mr.Nolan has taken liberties with Homer’s version, but that’s no surprise. That’s par for the course with movie directors.
