A visit to the cat house

So my neighbours are catsitting until their daughter’s house sells. I went over to visit their new boarders.

This is Millie. And I can’t say her name without calling her Millie Vanilli.

And this is Vonnie. Slightly shyer than Millie, and fatter because she eats Millie’s food.

All I’ve got for you today. But  cat pictures are what built the Internet so  . . .

Make way for goslings!

I’m not a great photographer. But even the average person sometimes gets lucky and a bit of magic happens. That’s what happened two days ago when I was downtown. I was going to the library and passed a pair of adult geese crossing a busy intersection with their flock of goslings. They had to cross it twice, first going west then south, and they actually started off at a crosswalk. But halfway through they just decided to go straight across as fast as they could.

Luckily people are used to geese doing that in this town so nobody was hurt. I don’t think a feather was ruffled. I started snapping pictures almost right away as soon as I saw them getting ready to go for it. Most of the pics were either blurry or poorly composed. But this one, right in the middle, came out perfectly. Looking back on it, I think I’ve only taken a handful of pictures my entire life that I like as much as this one. It’s a keeper! Middle of the road

Luckily there wasn’t a lot of traffic to stop this guy from crossing the road. There never is when I go for a walk. I like to be out and about before anyone else. So it’s just me and the skunks and the foxes and the geese.

Chillin’ in the parking lot

Saw this guy yesterday morning just enjoying the wide open spaces before all the people show up. It’s my favourite time of the day too! Once I took his picture he stood up and walked away, looking annoyed. (You can click on the pic to make it bigger.)

Premonitions of spring

You know the story about the frog in the pot that’s brought to a boil? Not true, apparently. The frog will jump out before it gets too hot. Anyway, as the snow starts to melt around here I noticed the head of this frog statue I have in my front garden peeping out of the snow. He’s sort of the reverse of the frog in a boiling pot. Maybe he was hibernating. Or “brumating” as it’s called with reptiles. Can spring be far away?

The deer park

I often walk past these deer when I go downtown but I’ve never taken a picture because they’ve had paint on them or stickers. I guess they got cleaned up at some point so I took their picture yesterday. No, I don’t understand the meaning of the geometric forms. And yes that’s my shadow on the deer closest to you. I didn’t realize I’d put myself in the picture until I got home. (You can click on the pic to make it bigger.)
