Darkness at (just before) noon

Do not adjust your monitor. There were no filters used on this picture I took at 11 am while out for a walk on an otherwise sunny day. This is what the sky looks like. In fact, I think it’s even oranger now.

There are wildfires now raging through northern Ontario and apparently Toronto has the worst air quality in the world today, which I find kind of hard to believe but somebody professional-sounding said it.

These conditions are supposed to last through tomorrow. Then the worst of the smoke will have been sent to our good neighbours to the south.

  1. Yeah, we’re getting it right now too!
All the automated lights have come on because the sensors don’t sense enough light.
It’s also making breathing unpleasant. Coating my mouth n throat. Blechh!

  2. I have googled and found out there are hundreds of wildfires going on in Canada at the mo. What the hell are y’all doing up there? ALso you’re supposed to have snow and be cold mostly so lots of wildfires is wrong. Anyway, what are you doing about it? Booky can’t breath!

    • Problem is we have a lot of forests, and forests burn. It actually is a real problem, and likely only getting worse. Good book on one of the big fires a few years ago called Fire Weather by John Vaillant.

Booky is going to have to carry around one of those oxygen canisters with him. But it will toughen him up.

  3. The summer smoke thingy really is noticeable in our area when it arrives. That picture says it all. We don’t get it that bad in Pennsylvania, and grateful for that because it really affects those follks who have issues breathing in the first place on a perfect weather day.
