Just a note to let you know that I’m back updating at Alex on Film, for how long and how often I’m not sure. I just don’t watch as many movies as I used to. And you do get to a point where you start repeating yourself, a rut which is made easier to fall into by how repetitive and formulaic the movies are. But I’ll keep posting notes for a little while longer anyway.
I also noticed that my traffic to Alex on Film is now experiencing another surge, akin to what I got from the Chinese bots a year or so ago. I think I had over 6,000 visits yesterday alone, which is quite high. I don’t really care because none of it is real, but it does have the unfortunate effect of making the traffic reports that WordPress gives me meaningless. I don’t think there’s any way of stopping it though, even if I cared enough to try.
Yep the bots have royally f***ed everyone’s stats by the sounds of things, makes me laugh though. 😁

I guess we’re all just data being scraped by AI? Oh well.

I think the whole internet is just data being scraped by AI, it’s unstoppable now. And the sheeple don’t really care, doom and gloom my friend!

Doom and gloom are my native element! I’ll be right at home in this dystopian new world.

There’s an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond where Ray’s wife yells at him, “You’re not happy unless you’re miserable!” To which Ray says, “Bingo!”

Yep! And I was too miserable to even watch that show.

You didn’t miss anything. I watched the first episodes and gave up.

Great show. SOME people don’t even like Friends. Don’t listen to THOSE people.

I at least saw a few episodes of Friends. I’m not saying I liked it.

The real answer is “that’s because I have a russian soul” 😀

the problem is that the only way to stop it is to get off the internet altogether. Even I’m not willing to go that far. I have considered it though 🙂

I do admire people who are off grid. I grew up without the internet of course, but can’t imagine choosing a life without it now.

Yeah, me neither. I was in my 20’s when the internet became available to “regular” people…

I’ve been really, really tempted more and more to go offline. I don’t think I can manage it entirely, but definitely pulling the plug on the webpage stuff. I just don’t know.

What do you mean by webpage stuff?

Shutting down my webpages. I think I’d still have to be a bit online to do some business stuff, but otherwise I do dream of being offline more or less entirely and just becoming a hermit.

There is that. Good point.

Yep, this whole year has been screwed by bots. Stats are now totally worthless and wp.com doesn’t give a flying fig.
Maybe you could rejuvenate yourself with older movies? except you already watch a bunch of older movies, so if that’s not working, I got nothing. Because new movies are just hot garbage in almost every way now.

I actually have been watching more older movies recently. And mostly they have been beating the pants off the new releases.

Duh. : -)

It’s not a totally fair comparison though, as time has had the effect of winnowing out a lot of trash from years ago, while I have a tendency to just watch whatever new releases appear on the shelf.

Yeah, I think it’s funny how people (including me, in the moment) cry about all the sequels and remakes and series these days, but if you go back you find that Hollywood has been pumping that stuff out like crazy for a very long time.
But even so, the difference is very real. And it’s simply because we were a more adult world back in the day in so, so many ways.

Him and his anti-cartoon ideas. I’m thinking of invading Canada and putting him trial for hate crimes against cartoons!

With the amount of CGI in them, most movies are cartoons now. And I shake my fist at all of them!
