I so rarely go to the cinema these days that I don’t know if they still have free movie magazines. But back in the ’80s and ’90s they sure did, and for some reason I held on to a bunch of mine. Looking over them again recently I felt quite overcome with nostalgia. I was also surprised at the number of movies, or “major motion pictures,” from back then that I only dimly recalled or had forgotten entirely. It was a real trip down memory lane.
Anyway, I thought it would be fun to share some covers and random page spreads with you. If you were of a movie-going age back in the day maybe you’ll feel the same glow.

Quick, if you sell some of them now, you “might” be able to afford heating oil all winter long 😦

Or use them to start the wood stove . . .

Even wood has gone up tremendously. My brother just got 2 cords. He spent his birthday stacking it up. It was green as Lucky the Leprechaun, so it’s going to have to sit for 2 years before he can even use it.

That doesn’t surprise me. So many prices going up. I remember all the work put into laying up a year’s supply of wood back when I was on the farm. But boy a wood stove is nice to sit by in the winter. Knock you asleep in minutes.

I dealt with wood while at Bibleschool. A couple of the staff would cut the trees down and let them sit and then next fall they’d drag them out and we’d chunk it up and then deliver trailer loads of the stuff to all the various staff homes that had wood furnaces. The guys dorm had a wood stove that powered hot water (forced hot water I think?), and we had a wood shed out back. Fill that up and then we all had furnace duty a week at a time. Stock it up at 10pm, get up at 3am and then again at 7am. Everybody hated furnace duty, especially on Saturday, which was the only day we could sleep in.

Mornings were classes, afternoons were work study programs.
Basically learning how to take care of the campus on a big and small basis.
We learned bits and bobs about wiring a room, fixing a car, how to weld, dealing with household equipment, and generally learning a good work ethic.

I remember it all, including Hanky Panky though I didn’t see it. I guess I’ve seen quite a few movies featuring former SNL cast members, but there are definitely a lot more that I haven’t seen. Take out Chevy Chase and Bill Murray and even that number drops dramatically.
Didn’t like E.T.? I loved it — until he got captured. Then it sucked. But the first part is still great.

Sometimes WordPress does that. Usually things go back to normal.
I really racked my brain trying to remember Hanky Panky but came up with nothing.
