Upper Canada was what Ontario was known as in the olde days. Upper because it was further up the St. Lawrence, as opposed to Quebec, which was Lower Canada. Upper Canada Village is a “living history” tourist destination located in Morrisburg, a town on the St. Lawrence. I think I may have gone there once as a kid, but I don’t remember. If I did, I’m sure I didn’t get this bookmark on that visit so somebody must have got it for me later.

Quebec is always and likely will always be talking about secession. Same as Alberta. But it’s not as bad now as it has been.

I’m intrigued by the circle at the top. Are you supposed to run a chain through it so you can carry your bookmark with you on your travels? Like some badge of nerdiness?

Was not aware of Upper and Lower Canada. A very dignified, noble bookmark we have here. I noticed the top of it as well. Maybe the bookmark is designed to be hung on a wall near the bookshelves when it is not “at work.”

Thanks Bruce! It’s quite a small bookmark and that hole in the top is tiny so I’m sure it wouldn’t be attached to a wall. I mean, it’s because it’s so small that I have trouble thinking what it could be for.

My curiosity sent me to the evil Google AI…”a small ring at the top of a metal or ribbon bookmark is usually meant to hold a decorative charm, a tassel, or a lanyard. It also helps you pull the bookmark easily out of a closed book.” That hole area might just be there to handle the bookmark more easily, or a “suggestion” to thread fabric of your choice through it.
