On days like this you can forget about picking up your mail. Even if you can get your key in the slot the doors are iced shut.
Not that we had any mail delivery anyway!

With Canada Post losing over a billion dollars a year, delivery to your door is on its way to disappearing. Most places in the city use community mailboxes. I’m in a condo so we have one anyway.
So, to answer your question, no my gaff does not have a letter box. I did have one but since it was never used I took it down.

I have some de-icer that will work on the actual keyhole. But the doors themselves are usually iced up completely too. I don’t know how much hot water I’d need.

Oooph, that’s rough! Our mail box is inside the building, so we don’t have to worry about that kind of thing happening.

Yep! Of course, our mail system hasn’t sunk yet to the canadian level, but sadly, we’re going in that direction 😦

I’ve posted before about mail service and all the problems we have. I hope they keep things going, because they really need to, but it will likely only be on a very reduced level. I don’t need mail every day, for one thing.

I think ours is going wrong too, apparently letters are being held up at sorting offices sometimes for 3 to 4 weeks, people are getting appointment letters too late and the like. Apparently they now prioritise parcels and don’t have enough staff to do all the other stuff anytime soon. 🙄

I hope they can figure things out. The thing is, we don’t really need mail for as much anymore. But we do need some kind of public system of mail delivery that serves everyone. So they need a national infrastructure but at the same time they have to downsize.
It is kind of sad to see it go this way. I remember living on the farm and the mail was a really big deal. But the world keeps changing.

I’m just using that so I don’t use the real name.
But Mrs B did get pulled over for going 5mph over the speed limit and the cop (from a little town) looked at her license and literally said “I see you’re from the big town of X.” and then went on some schpeil. I really don’t like small town cops.

I guess you’re not the one to ask about this, but I *almost* couldn’t open my car door after the one bit of ice we did get down here. How do you keep that from happening to your cars?

What I used to do was have a de-icer spray that I sprayed on the key. Or you could spray the de-icer into the lock. If you don’t live in a place where this happens very often I wouldn’t worry about it though.

It wasn’t the lock that was the problem; I can just push a button my fob. It was that the door itself was iced shut. I guess you could spray the de-icer around the edge of the door? Yeah, I’m glad I don’t have to worry about that.

Yeah, you can go with warm water in that case, or a de-icer. I usually used the push and pull method, which is just basically reefing on the damn thing until it starts to have some give.
