Jefferson and I have a lot in common. Not only do we both like books, but we both designed our own libraries to put them in! I don’t know if he collected bookmarks though.

I did a report on Jefferson in highschool and I’ve never been able to view him in the same positive light again.
Did they even have book marks back then?

Bookmarks are as old as papyrus!

I hope you don’t also share his xylophagia. When he said he couldn’t live without books, he was serious. And if he’d just stayed in his library no one would have ever known. But no he had to start gnawing on the trees on the Monticello grounds. Fun fact: Stephen King based the character in “The Lawnmower Man” on Thomas Jefferson.
But seriously I’m happy to see some good old American representation in your collection. : -)

Books are dead trees . . .
One of my first bookmark posts was actually about as Americana as you can get.

That’s a good one! I hope you’ve got some GW in there somewhere. He was the best, after all.

Wasn’t LBJ from Texas too? You must be proud of him.

There’s a story about how he was touring Texas with his whole “entourage” when they decided to stop to eat at a diner that didn’t serve blacks. His secretary was black. He just walked her in and ipso facto integrated the place. LBJ’s taken a beating, but he had his good points.

It’s always nice to find out that most public figures have some redeeming qualities.
