I have a lot of Remembrance Day bookmarks but couldn’t get them all in one picture. So here are a few from 2021, put out by Veterans Affairs Canada, marking the anniversaries of battles that Canadians played a major role in: Beaumont-Hamel (on the opening day of the Somme offensive), Vimy, and Kapyong in Korea.
I’ve looked in bookstores this past couple of weeks and haven’t seen any new ones. I don’t think anyone does bookmarks anymore.
Book: Marching As to War: Canada’s Turbulent Years 1899-1953 by Pierre Berton

I have photos of that statue at Beaumont Hamel and of the memorial at Vimy, the bookmarks are lovely.

Yep, they did a good job designing these. Don’t know if they ever did it again.
You’ve been to a lot of places!

I think it is going to take a whole new generation that reads paper books to bring back bookmarks. And I don’t see that happening in the next couple of decades.
I like that Vimy bookmark of the three you showcase here.

It’s not going to happen period. We’re not going back to the way things were.
The Vimy memorial is quite something.

I don’t know, vinyl has made quite the come back, so I think there’s a chance paper books might as well. Definitely be more niche, just like vinyl, but I still hold out hope 😀
How many remembrance day bookmarks do you have in total anyway?

They’ve been talking about vinyl coming back for decades. But how many people do you know who have turntables? I know of exactly none. I’ve never even heard of anyone who still has one, even sitting in an attic. It’s a micro-niche.
I had about a dozen bookmarks from different Remembrance Days but that was too many to stack into one picture.

Micro-niche eh? Not heard that term before, but it does seem to fit.

Not here it doesn’t. In the UK the vinyl market continues to grow, and it’s Gen Z driving it which is surprising as I thought it would be mostly old farts like Phil, who has 2 top quality turntables and enough records to open a shop. ‘According to data from the BPI, the overall vinyl market was up 10.7% year-on-year in Q3 at 1,498,693 units’.

and tidbits like that are why I still have hope for paper books, even if it’s not me who is reading them.

Same set, three different sizes. I can’t decide if I like that or not. : -)
Cool bookmarks, though. Never forget.

Ah that’s a distortion from the pic. They’re all identical sizes! They make a nice set.

I’m actually happy to hear that.
