These promotional books aren’t anything special. You just pick them up for free at bookstores. But I love it when friends bring them back to me from other countries. Here’s one from Denmark.

I think that was the book where I gave up on Murakami.
I like how the cat is looking UP at the fish π

I lasted a bit longer with Murakami, but he was definitely off his peak here. Which was, as is usually the case, the same time he was becoming a global superstar.
I vaguely remember the cats having a rough time of it in the book. They probably were looking up at the fish.

Success definitely didn’t do him any favors.

There’s truth to what Tennessee Williams called the catastrophe of success. But more often I find it’s when any artist is really discovered it’s a point in their career when their best work is already behind them.

Yeah, just like me π But I’ve got such a back log of great work that they’ll be mining my career for decades to come, hahahahahaa π

I don’t know what a Murakami is, but I grew up with a Siamese cat (which is perhaps why I think of them as the Cat Gods).

I loved Murakami’s earlier stuff. I’d recommend The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. I find his later stuff pretty hit and miss.
I’ve always been more a dog person. I do think Siamese cats are pretty neat though.

Not the same as The Windup Girl, huh? Oh, well, I’ll take a look anyway.
Dogs are different. They aren’t ruled by any one species.
