The Highway Book Shop (a.k.a “Northern Ontario’s Unexpected Treasure”) was located on a stretch of Highway 11 (at 1,800 km the second-longest highway in Ontario) just outside of the town of Cobalt. At one time the fourth-highest producer of silver in the world, Cobalt now has a population under 1,000. And if you’re ever planning on visiting, it’s really, really out there.
The Highway Book Shop was a husband-and-wife operation that began life as a print shop in 1957. I don’t know how much foot traffic they ever had, despite being a local tourist attraction, but they did have a presence online. They closed doors in 2011.

I think books are mainly a niche now. And for the kind of books that lot of people read — genre fiction like romance, fantasy, SF, etc. — I think AI will be writing most of that, and probably we’ll see that transformation within the next ten years.

The way I see it, just spend more time reading the classics. We’ll have those, at least for a while.

That is a viable option. One of the reasons I’m reading the Russian classics. At some point I need to add Dumas’ complete works and drive through that systematically. Also Hugo.

Quite a plain bookmark, but with all the info necessary to buy a book from them! Well, if it was still going.

Oh definitely not an elaborate bookmark. Few of the bookstore bookmarks are. But a bit of history and a prized part of the collection!
