Things moved a lot faster when I was a young fellow. But today I think more chaste relationships may be the fashion. That is, if young people are finding their way into relationships at all. I hear they’re having a lot less sex than previous generations anyway.

Probably because they’re all riddled with anxiety problems and mental health issues. I don’t think we had those back in the day.

Yep! Plus porn is a lot more available.

Well I suppose that’s less stressful than a relationship.

Yeah I think porn, social media, and video games are all lumped together as forms of sedation.

Everybody had their act together before then. I remember.

Maybe we had mental health issues but just said ‘f**k it’ and got on with life.

In march that is definitely the case. But in February? This is some serious snow and it’s going to stick around until mid to late march. I guarantee it.

Yeah, I always say I feel sorry for young people. I mean, I like some things about the new communications and media environment, but overall I don’t think it’s been good for us.

What if it turns out there was a connection between the rise of the alphabet crew and the new celibacy? That is, to avoid offending anyone, kids just started opting out altogether?

I don’t know if there’s a connection there. I think they’re mostly just feeling isolated and depressed and they have lousy social skills. Not as many of them want to have families either, which makes the exercise seem even more pointless.

Oh, it’s just a thought. But I’m warming to it. As one of many factors. It supports the larger idea that instinct isn’t dead. Celibacy as a survival instinct.
I’d also point to the economy as a major contributing factor. What’s the point if you can’t have a decent life anyway?

Like any such shift there are likely a lot of different causes. Some of them slowly building for a long time, others more proximate. I agree with economic anxiety being another.
