Believe it or not, this is a hydrangea. Another gift from a neighbour. I stuck it in the garden about ten years ago and it has never blossomed into the puffy snowball that hydrangeas are known for. I always thought this was because it wasn’t getting enough water. But this summer it has rained every other day, and this is the best it can do. (You can click the pic to make it bigger.)

Get one of the iron chains from your dungeon and wrap it around the base; not only will it flourish, but it’ll change colour too!

adding coffe grounds to the soil around it will make it turn blue. Don’t need chains!

It’s turning a darker purple now, but that’s just before it packs it in for the season.

It’s so rocky it would be too much work to get them in there. They seem blessed.

They need to be in moist, free-draining soil and dappled shade – not too sunny and not too shady. Avoid south-facing positions, especially if the soil is very dry.

I think the lack of water has been the big problem thus far. It’s planted on the top of a slope and a lot of the rain it does get drains away. Also, it does face south. But that’s where my front garden is!

Not really. The border of the property isn’t a garden and it’s common ground (condo) anyway.
