I remember the Co-Op Bookstore in the Stone Road Mall. But I think it closed in the 1980s. Making this a very old bookmark indeed. Back in the days when Canadian bookmarks, even the ones that are just slips of paper with some printing on them, had to be “Made in [the] U.S.A.”
I’m not sure if the Stone Road location was associated with the University of Guelph’s Co-Op Bookstore, which is still in operation on campus. I don’t know why they would have had a storefront in the mall, but it’s possible.

Bookstores really had their heyday, didn’t they? I think we’ve passed the point of no return for them ever returning though. Very melancholy…

Yep. Still have a few smaller, local stores. But it’s not a good business to be in and hasn’t been for a while. Most of the Bookstores No More I’ve featured closed in the ’90s.

Why does Canada not make their own bookmarks??

I was making that remark tongue in cheek. But the bookmark does say Made in USA on it, which makes no sense to me as it’s just a slip of paper with some printing on it. I don’t see why the store couldn’t have run them off at the copy shop. They had those even back in the ’80s.
